FIA International Festival of Arts Anna, February 28, 2013April 14, 2013 Together with all the dance and music festivals, Costa Rica hosts a festival just to celebrate art. Organized by Ministry of Culture and Youth, this event was founded back in 1989 with the National Theater of Costa Rica. It was formerly called the ‘San Jose for peace’. This gave birth to the concept of appreciation of art in the region. Following its huge success, the Ministry of Culture and Youth continued it in 1992 and finally made it a perpetual bi-annual event now known as ‘International Festival of Arts’. Hosted in the San Jose, the capitol of Costa Rica; the Sabana Metropolitan Park becomes the core of the festival. Here is where the main stages are set and all the activities are on the go. Also, the National Theatre and Melico Salazar Theatre are actively involved with performances. Moreover, you will also find shows in Liberty Metropolitan Park, Juan Santamaria Museum and many other galleries, auditoriums and main avenues across the city. True to its promise, the festivity of art is found around every corner and every kind of art lover meets its interest around somewhere or the other in these 2 weeks. The festival gathers over 2000 artists belonging from over 28 countries and delivers around 320 art shows. The Museum and Gallery Route alone displayed over 602 objects in 2012. Apart from the art displays and theatrical presentations, the true spirit of festival is kept alive with its concerts, dance performances and circus acts. The International Art Festival 2012 brought in international artists from Holland, Spain, Germany, Israel and Italy including the Puerto Rican reggae star Calle 13, British rock star Alan Parsons and Pedro Aznar. Keeping in mind the attendance of families and children, the event arranges activities solely to keep them busy such as puppet shows, storytelling, poetry readings, clowns, art and much more. Costa Rica’s International Art Festival is a widely sponsored event and it extends its help to the artists in every way to put up their work and get the appreciation they deserve. It helps them with their fee, conveyance, accommodations, publicity, and marketing and provides technical assistance. It finds them suitable places to set up their work at theatres, spaces or stages and makes sure they are supervised at all times. While you are there for the occasion, outstanding hotels of San Jose are ready to provide you with great accommodations and other facilities.
